Este libro presenta una investigacin orientada a la evaluacin del riesgo por flujos torrenciales en el centro poblado de Villa Restrepo (Colombia), en perspectiva de proponer lineamientos para su gestin eficaz y eficiente. Se desarroll un esquema metodolgico que tuvo como fase inicial la caracterizacin de la amenaza elaborando una zonificacin de susceptibilidad a remociones en masa, un estudio de precipitacin como factor detonante y una zonificacin de amenaza por flujos torrenciales con base en modelaciones hidrulicas y un mtodo semiheurstico. En una segunda fase, se abord una estimacin de la vulnerabilidad fsica y funcional con base en matrices de interaccin fenmeno elemento expuesto y finalmente se realiz un anlisis de los factores humanos de vulnerabilidad y su relacin con la percepcin del riesgo. El principal objetivo es mostrarle al lector que los estudios realizados desde una perspectiva ingenieril deben complementarse con la identificacin y anlisis de factores humanos de vulnerabilidad para soportar de una manera ms eficaz la toma de decisiones en cuanto al diseo y ejecucin de medidas de mitigacin.
