En este trabajo se analiza la viabilidad de dos alternativas de valorizacin de residuos agrcolas orgnicos, el compostaje y la generacin de energa, mediante anlisis costebeneficio (ACB) con inclusin de beneficios ambientales estimados por valoracin contingente. Respecto al mtodo de valoracin contingente, se estim la disposicin a pagar (DAP) de los horticultores de la zona de estudio ante tres alternativas de gestin pblica de los residuos propuesta: vertedero controlado, compostaje y generacin de energa. Asimismo, se establecieron relaciones entre la DAP y variables de tipo socioeconmico a partir de anlisis bivariantes y multivariantes (modelos PROBIT). Para la estimacin de los costes de transporte de los residuos, se utiliz un sistema de informacin geogrfica (GIS) en el que inicialmente se localiz una zona ptima para emplazar una planta de compostaje, y despus se calcularon las rutas de mnimo coste entre dicha planta y las zonas de generacin de residuos. En el caso de la planta desaladora, los costes de transporte se obtuvieron a partir de las rutas de mnimo coste entre la ubicacin de sta y las zonas de generacin.
