Los sistemas de informacin geogrficos (SIG) han tenido un gran desarrollo durante los ltimos aos, y sobre todo de aquellos SIG que integran el anlisis espacial y la evaluacin multicriterio dentro de la modelizacin espacial. Los SIG se han convertido en herramientas poderosas e indispensables dentro del proceso de toma de decisiones, la planificacin y gestin del territorio. Es por ello que en el presente trabajo se emplea el uso de estas herramientas para realizar la generacin de escenarios para la ubicacin de zonas aptas para la expansin urbana de la zona metropolitana de Cochabamba (ZMC), que durante las ltimas dcadas tuvo un acelerado y catico crecimiento urbano que sin una adecuada planificacin territorial gener cambios de uso de la tierra y modificacin del paisaje, provocando la reduccin de gran cantidad de reas agrcolas y generando impacto al ecosistema del valle central.
