Die Buchreihe dient zur Bewahrung der Literatur und Frderung der Kultur. Sie trgt so dazu bei, dass viele tausend Werke nicht in Vergessenheit geraten. About the Author Geboren am 22.2.1788 in Danzig; gestorben am 21.9.1860 in Frankfurt/Main. Schopenhauer entstammte einer patrizischen Kaufmannsfamilie. Die ungeliebte Kaufmannslehre in Hamburg brach er nach dem Tod des Vaters (1805) ab und bersiedelte zur Mutter nach Weimar, wo diese einen literarischen Salon fhrte und bald zur berhmten Schriftstellerin avancierte. Seit 1809 studierte er in Gttingen Naturwissenschaften, ab 1811 in Berlin Philosophie. Nach der Dissertation 1813, einer kurzen Zusammenarbeit mit Goethe ber die Farbenlehre und dem Zerwrfnis mit Mutter und Schwester zog er nach Dresden. Auf eine Italienreise folgte 1820 der Versuch einer Lehrttigkeit an der Berliner Universitt, die aber an mangelndem Interesse scheiterte, das sich damals vor allem Hegel zuwandte. Von 1831 an lebte er zurckgezogen in Frankfurt/M. als Privatgelehrter und Junggeselle.
