El sector minero es y ha sido uno de los principales generadores de divisas en la historia de la economa mundial y un importante proveedor de materias primas para el sector industrial. Tanto la explotacin de minerales metlicos como no metlicos es una actividad de gran importancia para diversos sectores industriales. En la actualidad, la explotacin y beneficio de minerales metlicos y no metlicos ha sido tambin un generador de residuos tanto txicos como no txicos que de una u otra forma alteran los ecosistemas donde son vertidos o depositados. As mismo, en algunos casos son portadores de propiedades y/o valores adicionales que pueden ser tratados, re usados y/o reciclados para generar un beneficio econmico alterno y minimizar as los efectos contaminantes que su vertido ocasionan. Es por ello, que se estudia en este trabajo la caracterizacin de los residuos generados en la explotacin, laminado y labrado de canteras, para evaluar las posibilidades de que sean reutilizados como materia prima en alguna actividad industrial alterna, generando as ingresos econmicos de residuos considerados como desechos y promoviendo a la vez la limpieza de los tiraderos de residuos.
