Dieses Buch behandelt die verschiedenen Anpassungsmglichkeiten, welche den Akteuren auf Arbeitsmrkten zur Verfgung stehen. Hierbei wird untersucht, wie die Anzahl der Arbeitskrfte und stunden sowie der Reallohn auf Vernderungen von Angebots und Nachfragebedingungen reagiert. Es werden also verschiedene Problembereiche theoretisch aufgearbeitet und einer empirischen berprfung zugefhrt. Die vorliegenden Ergebnisse werden anschlieend auf ihre wirtschaftspolitischen Konsequenzen berprft. Im Zentrum stehen mikrokonomische Entscheidungen von Unternehmen und Arbeitnehmern ber Arbeitszeit, Beschftigung, Kndigung, Lohnhhe und Investitionen in Humankapital. Im Einzelnen werden die Auswirkungen einer Arbeitszeitverkrzung auf die Beschftigung, die Flexibilitt von Arbeitsstunden im Vergleich zur Anzahl der Beschftigten und die Entwicklung der Beschftigungsanpassung in den letzten Jahren untersucht. In weiteren Kapiteln werden Produktivitts und Lohnwachstum verglichen sowie von der Arbeitnehmer bzw. Arbeitgeberseite ausgesprochene Kndigungen analysiert. Schlielich wird der Verhandlungsproze zwischen Gewerkschaften und Unternehmen und der Einflu von Humankapital auf Marktzutritt, Gewinn und Lohnhhe betrachtet.
