Der vorliegende Sammelband ist im Zusammenhang mit einer Fachtagung zum Thema "Arbeit und Technik" entstanden, die die Sektion "Wirtschaft und Technik" des Berufsverbandes Deutscher Soziologen (BDS) am 30. Mai 1989 in Dortmund veranstaltet hat. Die Zielsetzung der Sektion besteht darin, spezifisch soziologische Beitrage zu aktuellen Problemen aus dem Themenfeld "Wirtschaft und Technik" zusammenzutra gen und dabei die Perspektiven von Wissenschaft und Praxis zu integrieren. So zeigt sich, wie auch in der Mitgliedschaft der Sektion, bei den Referenten der Ta gung bzw. den Autoren dieses Sammelbandes eine un gefahre Gleichgewichtigkeit von Forschern und Prakti kern, die nicht nur einen fruchtbaren Diskurs zwischen beiden Perspektiven ermoglicht, sondern darOber hinaus die Trennlinien zwischen "der Wissenschaft" und "der Praxis" unscharf werden laBt, insbesondere wenn es urn eine aktive Beteiligung von Sozialwissenschaftlern an der Technikgestaltung geht. Spezifisch soziologische Beitrage zur Technikgestal tung fokussieren die mensch lichen Aspekte technischer Systeme, die besser als "soziotechnische Systeme" zu bezeichnen sind, weil die Technik, Ober die Mensch MaschineSchnittstelle hinaus, immer in soziale und personelle Strukturen eingebettet ist und auf ihnen auf baut, weil sie im Konflikt inner und Oberbetrieblicher sozialer Interessen gestaltet wird und weil sie schlieB lich auch Auswirkungen auf die Menschen innerhalb und auBerhalb der Betriebe aufweist. Technikgestaltung aus sozialwissenschaftlicher Perspektive heiBt deshalb immer "arbeitsorientierte Technikgestaltung", weil sie 9 Aspekte der Arbeitssituation, der Arbeitsorganisation, der Qualifikationen und nicht zuletzt der arbeitspoliti schen Auseinandersetzungen in den Vordergrund ruckt.
