This handbook is intended to facilitate the collection of archeomagnetic samples, so that individual archeologists will have greater access to this important dating method. It is hoped that increased use of archeomagnetism will result, and that this will improve the costeffective development of archeological chronologies. The handbook is designed to be both an introduction to archeomagnetism and a practical guide to collection procedures, understanding laboratory analysis, and interpreting results. The book was originally prepared for the Heritage Conservation and Recreation Service of the U. S. Department of the Interior.
