Die Familienforschung boomt. Dies ist eine Herausforderung fr die Archive, die eine Vermittlerfunktion zwischen Schriftgutbildnern, der Wissenschaft und der Laienforschung einnehmen. Die beiden Personenstandsarchive im Landesarchiv NordrheinWestfalen haben unter dem Titel "Archive, Familienforschung und Geschichtswissenschaft. Annherungen und Aufgaben" insgesamt 20 archivfachliche, quellenkundliche und historische Beitrge von 21 Autorinnen und Autoren zusammengefasst. Die Artikel gehen auf Vortrge zurck, die aus Anlass der Jubilumstagung beider Personenstandsarchive 2005 und bei den Sommergesprchen des Staats und Personenstandsarchivs Detmold 2004 und 2005 gehalten wurden. Sie wurden durch weitere Beitrge thematisch ergnzt. Die Tagungen hatten das Ziel, die Personenstandsarchive, die es in Deutschland nur in NordrheinWestfalen gibt, strker in der deutschen Archivlandschaft zu prsentieren. Gleichzeitig sollten sie eine Brcke zwischen Archiven und ihren verschiedenen Nutzergruppen entwickeln. Gruppiert um die gemeinsamen Themen "Archive und ffentlichkeit", "Personenstandsquellen in Archiven", "Archivalien von Morgen" und "Geschichtswissenschaftliche Perspektiven" zeigt der Band unterschiedliche Perspektiven heutiger archivischer Arbeit auf, besonders in den Personenstandsarchiven, sowie unterschiedliche Auswertungsmglichkeiten von Personenstandsquellen, z.B. bei der historischen Familien und der historischen Migrationsforschung. Vorliegende Publikation ist somit ein Beitrag zur archivfachlichen Diskussion und dient gleichzeitig als Einfhrung in die Nutzung von personenbezogenen Archivalien etwa fr die Genealogie.
