Kaum ein kulturwissenschaftliches Fach ist in den Medien in solcher Weise positiv besetzt wie die Archologie. Mit diesem Privileg wird jedoch leichtsinnig umgegangen. Die vorliegende Untersuchung versteht sich als Aufruf zu einer kritischen Auseinandersetzung mit dem Fach Archologie und einer sozial verantwortlicheren, ffentlich engagierteren und damit relevanteren Archologie. Das Buch widmet sich der Reprsentation des Faches und der Inszenierung archologischer Inhalte in einem Medium, ber das ein Groteil der Bevlkerung mit Archologie in Kontakt kommt. Im Rahmen einer vergleichenden Analyse und Bewertung einer Auswahl an archologischen TVDokumentationen wird der Frage nachgegangen, welche archologiebezogenen Inhalte sie transportieren, welche ffentlichen Bilder und Assoziationen sie prgen und in welcher Relation diese zur archologischen Realitt stehen. Neben methodischen Anleihen in der Filmanalyse und unter Zuhilfenahme geschichtswissenschaftlicher Anstze wird eine archologische Perspektive auf den Untersuchungsgegenstand geboten. Bei aller scharfen Kritik an archologisch fragwrdigen Formaten verfllt die Forschungsarbeit jedoch nicht einer einseitigen Medienschelte. Entgegen typisch wissenschaftlichen Abwehrreflexen lsst sich dem Fernsehen keine alleinige Verantwortung fr problematische Dokumentationen zuweisen. Archologen tragen eine Mitverantwortung fr die ffentliche Reprsentation ihres Faches, v.a. wenn sie unreflektiert ihre Rolle bei der Mitgestaltung und Perpetuierung stereotyper Bilder einnehmen und sich medial regelrecht durch den Kakao ziehen lassen! Ziel dieser Untersuchung ist die Sensibilisierung der archologischen Wissenschaft fr ihre ffentlichkeit, damit archologische Inhalte in Zukunft adquater vermittelt werden knnen.
