Durante el trabajo descrito en este libro, se desarroll el equipamiento necesario para estudios biomecnicos funcionales in vitro de arterias humanas, y se mont un laboratorio de anlisis biomecnico no invasivo. Se evaluaron y validaron internacionalmente tcnicas de procesamiento de tejidos, ya que las mismas permitieron mantener inalteradas las propiedades biomecnicas funcionales de vasos sanguneos humanos de diferentes tipos histolgicos. Se evaluaron, mediante estudios preimplante, insumos bioteraputicos vasculares criopreservados que superan en el grado de similitud biomecnica funcional en el momento del implante, a los sustitutos venosos y sintticos ms utilizados. Finalmente, mediante estudios postimplante, se determinaron cambios estructurales y funcionales que existen en los homoinjertos criopreservados, y se determin que su funcionamiento biomecnico se encuentra conservado, y su grado de acoplamiento biomecnico respecto de las arterias nativas es ampliamente superior al que presentan los sustitutos sintticos ms utilizados.
