Este trabajo pretende ampliar la filosofa del arte de Arthur C. Danto desde la semitica de Charles S. Peirce. Un proceso de escritura que comenz con el inters suscitado por el problema de los indiscernibles de Danto, segn el cual no es posible distinguir el arte del resto de la realidad mediante los datos proporcionados por los sentidos, y continu con el deseo de reivindicar la experiencia esttica como parte esencial de la comprensin de las obras de arte. As, ante el rechazo de Danto de los rasgos materiales especficos de las obras de arte como algo esencial a la comprensin del concepto del arte, se disearon algunos argumentos desde la nocin, defendida por Saul Kripke, de propiedades materiales de carcter esencial de una entidad, para, posteriormente, indagar por una perspectiva filosfica que pudiese reivindicar ambas pretensiones sin caer en una contradiccin. Bsqueda que alcanz en la semitica de Peirce la mejor forma de evitarla para dedicarse al problema de definir el concepto del arte desde una comprensin de las obras como signos inmersos en un movimiento que va desde el mbito esttico hasta el compromiso institucional de una interpretacin infinita.
