Sie geht der Frage nach, ob Kasda sich verschuldet um einem alten Kameraden zu helfen und dadurch schlussendlich ein Opfer des damals herrschenden Ehrenkodexes wird, oder ob ihn seine eigene Spielsucht seine Instabilitt in den Tod treibt, da er letztlich einen moralischen Ruin erleidet, mit dem er selbst nicht mehr leben kann. Um diese Frage zu beantworten, soll in den ersten beiden Punkten auf die Welt des Militrs zur Zeit Kasdas und auf die Wichtigkeit der Ehrvorstellung eingegangen werden. Hierzu wird auch die Homogenitt von Kasda und Leutnant Gustl angefhrt, um Schnitzlers Leutnantsbild zu verdeutlichen. Darauf folgend werde ich mich mit Wilhelms Umfeld und einigen wichtigen Persnlichkeiten befassen, die fr ein Verstndnis seines Konflikts unabdingbar sind. Weitere Gegenstnde der Untersuchung sind das Glcks und das Liebesspiel, welche das zentrale Thema der Novelle darstellen, und woran der letzte Punkt, Wilhelms Selbstmord, anschliet. Den Abschluss dieser Arbeit bildet ein, die Analyse abrundendes Ergebnis.
