El cncer de pncreas presenta la peor tasa de supervivencia de todas las neoplasias. Las causas principales de este mal pronstico son el diagnstico tardo, debido a su localizacin anatmica y la falta de especificidad de los sntomas que provoca, y la diseminacin precoz a ganglios linfticos regionales, al hgado y a estructuras vasculares prximas. Se ha postulado que el cncer de pncreas podra estar relacionado con el metabolismo de los folatos y la angiognesis; el gen de la Timidilato Sintasa (TS) controla el metabolismo de los folatos y la sntesis de ADN; el gen del Factor Inducible por Hipoxia (HIF1 a) regula la respuesta celular a la hipoxia. Los objetivos de este trabajo son analizar las distribuciones genotpicas de los polimorfismos de TS y HIF1a en pacientes diagnosticados de cncer de pncreas y compararlas con las de un grupo de voluntarios sanos representando a la poblacin general, estudiar la asociacin entre polimorfismos y variables clnicopatolgicas en los pacientes con cncer de pncreas, y determinar la relacin de los polimorfismos con la supervivencia.
