Exploring the challenge of rehabilitating countries after civil wars, this study finds that attempting to transform warshattered states into liberal democracies with market economies can backfire badly. Roland Paris contends that the rapid introduction of democracy and capitalism in the absence of effective institutions can increase rather than decrease the danger of renewed fighting. A more effective approach to postconflict peacebuilding would be to introduce political and economic reform in a gradual and controlled manner.

I found 'At War's End' to be packed with good information, but it took a while to get through due to the heavy academic tone. It has some great insights on building peace, especially for someone like me who works in humanitarian aid. Just wish it had been a tad more engaging!

A Deep Dive into Conflict Resolution
'At War's End' offers an insightful look into the complexities of rebuilding after civil conflict. The case studies presented are both poignant and educational, and they really got me thinking about peacebuilding efforts worldwide. Highly valuable for anyone in international relations or peace studies!

Not What I Expected
I was a bit disappointed with this book. I thought it would be more practical and less theoretical. Some chapters dragged on, and the examples felt overly academic. If you’re looking for something more actionable, you might want to keep looking.
