No todos los profesionales odontlogos estn dispuestos abiertamente a la atencin de las personas con discapacidad. Algunos, cercanos a la odontopediatra piensan en la eterna infancia de estos pacientes y ms all de la edad, los atienden mientras puedan tener un manejo adecuado de la conducta. Algunos otros hacen frente a las barreras de la propia discapacidad y con voluntad, paciencia y verdadera vocacin de servicio se brindan sin problemas a contribuir a una mejor calidad de vida. No fueron formados para ello, pero su personalidad les permite enfrentar el desafo. Por otra parte, pocos son los lugares pblicos o privados apropiados para la atencin de casos ms complejos y dificultosos. Se intenta analizar los aspectos fundamentales de la atencin odontolgica de la persona con discapacidad desde la formacin profesional del Odontlogo a la asistencia clnica de la salud bucal de estos pacientes. Los recursos y estrategias son aspectos que deben profundizarse en los estudios universitarios de pregrado, grado y postgrado, entendiendo a la discapacidad como un contenido transversal en educacin superior y con el propsito de conformar equipos transdisciplinarios de atencin.
