En medio del momento de cambios que se estn dando actualmente en la educacin inicial venezolana, y de las demandas y exigencias que a su vez se le hacen a los educadores infantiles para que brinden una educacin de calidad desde el mismo moemento de la gestacin, surge la preocupacin por la formacin que se est brindando en nuestros das, a los futuros docentes de educacin inicial, especialmente sobre la etapa maternal. A partir de este planteamiento, se determin como propsito: Analizar el proceso de formacin inicial de los educadores infantiles de la UPEL (Regin capital), con miras a identificar las necesidades de formacin para atender la etapa maternal. Para ello, se desarroll un anlisis documental y un trabajo de campo, sobre la sistematizacin de las experiencias en la administracin de los cursos de la especialidad en 3 institutos de la UPEL. Producto de este anlisis se determino: a)la necesidad de transformar el plan de estudio de la carrera, incluyendo la etapa maternal dentro del mismo; b)la importancia de la actualizacin de los formadores de formadores: c)la necesidad de levantar un diagnstico en el resto de los institutos de la UPEL.
