In dieser Untersuchung geht es um die unterschiedlichen Aneignungsformen, Bedeutungsmuster und Sinnwelten von Computerfreaks (Hacker, Programmierer, Cracker, Spieler). Die empirische Forschungsarbeit orientiert sich am interpretativen Paradigma. Beobachtungen, problemzentrierte Interviews sowie ergnzende Erhebungsstrategien und materialien (z.B. Zeitschriftenanalysen) ermglichen eine lebensweltnahe Beschreibung (SzenenEthnographie). Dabei zeigt sich: Die Aneignungsformen und Praktiken in der Computersozialwelt weisen ein hohes Ma an persnlicher Autonomie auf und evozieren die Bildung von spezialisierten Szenen (Spezialkulturen). Hier entstehen neue Formen einer (selbst)bewuten und (eigen)verantwortlichen Mediennutzung, also Rume, die keiner staatlichen Regulierung (etwa in Form von Gesetzen) bedrfen. Zu prfen wre vielmehr,ob die Computerclubs und Hackergruppen nicht kritische Aufgabenin der Medienumwelt bernehmen knnen, wie es kologiegruppen fr die natrliche Umwelt tun.
