Die Behandlung des goldenen Zeitalters und dessen Nachfolger bzw. Vorgnger sind sowohl bei Vergil, als auch bei Lukrez, Ovid, Horaz und Tibull, ein gngiges Motiv, denn Goldene Zeit' und Verfall' sind ewige Themen des Menschen und besonders in der Dichtung'. Jedoch ist eine Deutung des zugrundeliegenden Weltaltermythos, welcher seinen Ursprung in den Werken des Griechen Hesiod fand, bei jedem dieser Autoren nicht eindeutig und bedarf einer individuellen Errterung sowohl in soziokultureller als auch in intentionaler Hinsicht. Dies bedeutet, insbesondere die Aussagen ber das Goldene Zeitalter vor dem Hintergrund der Herrschaft des Augustus zu bewerten.
