Wingolf ist der germanischen Mythologie nach eine Freundeshalle in der Walhalla. Bekannt wurde der Begriff durch den Dichter Klopstock, der eine Sammlung seiner Dichtungen so nannte und ihn als Tempel der Freundschaft" bersetzte. Danach benannte sich eine 1844 gegrndete christliche, aber nicht konfessionell gebundene und nicht schlagende Studentenverbindung, die in vielen deutschen Universittsstdten bis heute vertreten ist. Das vorliegende Buch richtete sich an die 'Philister' der Verbindung und sollte ihnen ein Andenken an ihre Studentenzeit sein. Aus den Stdten Berlin, Bonn, Erlangen, Gieen, Halle Heidelberg, Leipzig, Marburg, Rostock, Gttingen und Basel wurden Texte zur Vereins und Universittsgeschichte, Abhandlungen ber ethische Fragen, Festreden, Lieder und Gedichte zusammengetragen. Nachdruck der Originalausgabe von 1860.
