Anhand einer differenzierten Quellenlage beschreibt sie vor dem Hintergrund der Korrespondenz Goldsteins sehr eindringlich die Zerrissenheit des emigrierten Schriftstellers, die durch den allmhlichen Verlust der Muttersprache, seinem wichtigsten Arbeitsinstrument, ausgelst wurde. Im Anhang des Buches werden Texte prsentiert, die Goldstein nach 1933 verfasst hat.
