Die stetige Rationalisierung in der Produktion fhrt dazu, dass die dort anfallenden Kosten hufig bereits sogar hinter den Kosten der Distribution zurckstehen. Diese Entwicklung macht die Bedeutung des Handels deutlich, dem gesamtwirtschaftlich gesehen eine entscheidende Rolle im Vertrieb zukommt. Das mittlerweile erreichte Verhltnis von Distributionskosten zu Produktionskosten macht deutlich, welche Bedeutung eine geeignete Informationsgrundlage fr die Steuerung des Vertriebs im Allgemeinen und fr die Steuerung von Handelsunternehmen im Speziellen hat. In den letzten Jahren wurde eine Flle von neuen Lsungsanstzen zur Steigerung der Wettbewerbsstrke von Unternehmen vorgestellt. Konzepte wie TQM, ECR, Business Process Reengineering, Category Management um nur einige zu nennen gewinnen zunehmend an Bedeutung. Vor diesem Hintergrund verfolgt diese Arbeit im wesentlichen zwei Ziele: Einerseits soll sie ein PerformanceMeasurementKonzept (PMKonzept) auswhlen und derart gestalten, dass es den Anforderungen eines Handelsunternehmens entspricht. Andererseits soll der Gestaltungsprozess eines PMKonzeptes am Beispiel eines realen Unternehmens (Rewe KGaA) dargestellt werden. Die Arbeit ist in vier Hauptkapitel (ausgenommen des ersten einleitenden Kapitels) untergliedert. Kapitel 2 befasst sich mit der Situation des Handels. Hier werden anfangs die Strmungen, die den Handel derzeit prgen und in Zukunft prgen werden durchleuchtet. In diesem Kapitel wird gezeigt, dass die Bercksichtigung aktueller Trends fr erfolgreiche Unternehmen von groer Wichtigkeit ist.
