Avalanche safety educator Bruce Trempers recently published Avalanche Essentials is a terrific little tome that condenses the conventional wisdom into 189 pages. The book is profusely illustrated with numerous diagrams and reallife photos. A thorough index rounds things out, making the book useful for research or as a fulcrum during safety classes and seminars. Wildsnow.com* Companion to Staying Alive in Avalanche Terrain, the bestselling avalanche text in the U.S.Winter athletes dont necessarily want to be snow scientists, but playing in avalanche country does require basic knowledge of the risks in order to stay safe. This new guide by renowned avalanche expert Bruce Tremper is simple, accessible, and offers just the basics an Everymans guide to avalanche safety that wont overtax your average ski bums, but will keep them safe when theyre going for 12 consecutive months of powder. I found the Avalanche Essentials system useful for understanding the basics of avalanche safety. However, I expected a bit more depth in some areas. It’s a solid start for beginners, but experienced users might find it lacking some advanced techniques. Still, I’d recommend it for newcomers to the sport.

Disappointed with the delivery
I was really looking forward to this Avalanche Essentials guide, but it arrived late and was a bit damaged. The information is decent, but it’s hard to get into when the book isn’t in perfect shape. I think the content is good, but the shipping experience soured it for me.

A Must-Have for Winter Adventurers
This Avalanche Essentials guide is super helpful! The step-by-step system made it easy to follow, even for someone like me who’s new to backcountry safety. The tips on survival were practical, and I feel more prepared for my upcoming trips. Definitely worth reading before heading out!
