Este libro es un recorrido por las historia de dos familias representativas del Tucumn del siglo XIX y XX. En l se analiza los procesos migratorios, la insercin social en la ciudad de Tucumn, la configuracin de una red de parentesco y la constitucin de la elite azucarera de la que formaron parte los Posse y los Nougus. Asimismo, es un anlisis de la conformacin de una elite nacional a partir del proceso de construccin y consolidacin del Estado Nacin en la Argentina a fines del siglo XIX y cmo se integraron las elites regionales en este caso la tucumana al proceso de institucionalizacin del rgimen conservador. Del mismo modo, se indaga en la insercin de un polo agroindustrial en el noroeste argentino como parte de un proceso de integracin econmica nacional a fines del siglo XIX y los procesos de negociacin entre la elite agroexportadora pampeana propulsora de una poltica librecambista y la elite del noroeste argentino que impuls medidas proteccionista para la agroindustria azucarera frente a los azucares fbricados en otras partes del mundo.
