ReviewThe easytofollow, stepbystep directions will help entice children to try the projects ? Bright, colorful illustrations present the process, and photographs depict the glorious finished product. (Booklist)Product DescriptionThis book in the Kids Can Do It series features more than 12 fabulous cookie projects for kids to bake, build and eat! From School Library JournalGr 46From a simple gift box to a fancy castle, this book encourages readers to use cookie dough to make a variety of constructions, large and small. Every project is formed from one of five recipes: oatmeal chocolatechip, gingerbread, sugar, shortbread, or cinnamon applesauce dough (which is inedible but aromatic). Icing and melted chocolate are used as glue. Eleven cookie creations (e.g., flower wreath, candleholder, Thanksgiving turkey) reflect seasons, holidays, and other occasions. Variations are suggested, and youngsters are invited to invent even more possibilities. Each project is described on a doublepage spread and has clear, fullcolor illustrations and stepbystep directions. The finished items are shown in photographs. One of the hazards of this type of construction is the fragility of the pieces. Although the author provides a section on repairing cookies, she does not encourage youngsters to make a project several times, which might be necessary since it takes practice and patience to learn this craft.Carolyn Jenks, First Parish Unitarian Church, Portland, MECopyright 1999 Cahners Business Information, Inc.About the AuthorElizabeth MacLeod has written many children's books, including nine titles in the Snapshots Biography series; numerous titles in the Kids Can Read, Kids Books Of and Kids Can Do It series; Why Do Horses Have Manes?; What Did Dinosaurs Eat?; and Monster Fliers.
