Besser als auf irgend einem groBen KongreB konnen auf einem Symposium neueste Ergebnisse der Forschung vorgetragen und diskutiert werden; im kleinen Kreis kann ein Thema wie das vorlie gende in seinen wissenschaftlichen und praktischen Beziigen besonders effektiv dargestellt und diskutiert werden. Das gewahlte Thema ist hochaktuell, denn sowohl die prophylakti sche als auch therapeutische Anwendung von Immunglobulinen gehoren zu den taglichen Uberlegungen des Klinikers, haben wir es doch in fast allen Bereichen der Medizin in zunehmendem MaBe mit erworbenen Immundefekten zu tun. Bei ausgedehnten chirur gischen Eingriffen, insbesondere bei katabolen Tumorpatienten, aber auch bei polytraumatisierten Patienten ist ein erhebliches Absinken der Immunglobuline zu beobachten, welches auch bei ausreichender Kalorienzufuhr nur unzureichend kompensiert wer den kann. 1m postoperativen Verlauf ist diese Immunglobulinver minderung mit einem erhohten Infektionsrisiko, einer erhohten Infektionsmorbiditat und Mortalitat verbunden. Viele klinische Studien haben sich mit diesem Risiko der Patienten befaBt und Wege zur prophylaktischen und therapeutischen Uberwindung des Risikos aufgezeigt. In dies en Studien spiel en die Anwendung bzw. Applikation von Immunglobulinen immer wieder eine wichtige Rolle.'
