Sie definiert den mittel bis langfristigen Kurs eines Unternehmens und dient somit als Orientierungshilfe. Jedoch kann sie nur erfolgreich sein, wenn sie auch effektiv umgesetzt bzw. kommuniziert wird. Dies geschieht nur, wenn alle Beteiligten, vom Vorstand bis zum Produktionsmitarbeiter, die Strategie kennen, hinter ihr stehen und sie weiterentwickeln. In vielen Unternehmen kommt die Geschftsfhrung ber die Strategieentwicklung und formulierung nicht hinaus. Die strategischen Ziele sind definiert, es fehlen aber Vorgaben und Manahmen zur Umsetzung. Gute Strategiearbeit bedeutet auch Wettbewerbsvorteil. In einer Studie von Kaplan und Norton gaben 70% der Unternehmen mit einem formellen Prozess zum Management der Strategieumsetzung an, dass sie bessere Ergebnisse erzielten und erfolgreicher als ihre Mitwettbewerber seien. Angesichts des schnellen technischen Fortschritts, eines starken globalisierten Wettbewerbs und einer sich stetig wandelnden Gesetzeslage besteht die Notwendigkeit, ein System zu integrieren, welches die strategischen Ziele aufgreift, sie bersetzt und kommuniziert, die Organisation entsprechend ausrichtet und sich selbst als Prozess versteht. Vor dem Hintergrund der grob umrissenen Problematik ist es das Ziel der vorliegenden Hausarbeit, das Potenzial der Balanced Scorecard als geeignetes Instrument zur Strategieumsetzung zu untersuchen. Der Aufbau der Hausarbeit gestaltet sich wie folgt. Zu Beginn soll der Strategiebegriff im eher deskriptiven Kapitel zwei eingehender thematisiert und die Phasen eines Prozesses zur Strategieentwicklung vorgestellt werden.
