En este libro, elaborado por los miembros del Laboratorio de Hepatologa Experimental y Vectorizacin de Frmacos (HEVEFARM) de la Universidad de Salamanca (Espaa), adscrito al Centro Nacional para la Investigacin Biomdica en Red de Enfermedades Hepticas y Digestivas (CIBERehd) y al Instituto de Investigacin Biomdica de Salamanca (IBSAL), utilizando una aproximacin farmacogenmica, se analizan las causas moleculares de la falta de respuesta de las clulas tumorales a la terapia farmacolgica. Los genes responsables de la quimiorresistencia antitumoral se han clasificado en cinco familias, con objeto de facilitar su estudio y favorecer el avance de la investigacin en este campo, sin perder de vista que muchos de ellos estn estrechamente relacionados y frecuentemente su expresin se regula de forma conjunta. Cambios de expresin o en la funcin de los elementos implicados en los diferentes mecanismos de quimiorresistencia, tanto de forma individual o como resultado de complejas combinaciones entre ellos, pueden estar presentes en los tumores antes del tratamiento o inducirse y potenciarse por la presin y seleccin que representa la exposicin a los frmacos citostticos.
