Ein Stratege ist somit ein Feldherr, also jemand, der die Kriegskunst beherrscht. Obwohl der Begriff Strategie heute in vielen Bereichen der Gesellschaft fr planvolles, zielgerichtetes Vorgehen mit seinen unterschiedlichsten Facetten verwendet wird, trgt das Buch Strategie' von Basil Liddell Hart, das dieser Arbeit zugrunde liegt, seinen Titel in einem ganz ursprnglichen Sinn. Und der Autor, selber im Kriegsdienst erprobt und als militrischer Planer und Berater ttig, ist ein Stratege im engsten Sinne des Wortes. Im antiken Griechenland bildeten Militr und Politik eine feste Einheit. Feldherren trugen somit zumeist auch staats bzw. stadtpolitische Verantwortung. In einer Zeit, als Politik bereits weit mehr als Kriegsfhrung beinhaltete, definierte Basil Hart Strategie als die Kunst, militrische Mittel so zuzuteilen und anzuwenden, dass sie die politischen Ziele erfllen.' Die vorliegende Arbeit soll die Theorie von Basil Henry Liddell Hart anhand seines viel zitierten Werkes Strategie' in ihren Grundzgen darstellen, die Hintergrnde ihrer Entwicklung aufzeigen und all das einer kritischen Wrdigung auch in Hinblick auf die Relevanz der Theorie fr die (politische) Praxis unterziehen.
