Ever since childhood, Stephane Marais has been fascinated by the beauty and glamour of photographs in fashion magazines. Today he ranks as one of the worlds most famous makeup artists, having collaborated with the industrys most renowned photographers and fashion designers. Behind the scenes, however, Marais has been capturing his own personal vision of the beauty of the worlds fashion models. Using a Polaroid camera that allows him to shoot faces at close range, Marais has taken photographs before shoots and during fashion show rehearsals for over 15 years. What originally began as a documentation of his makeup technique has long since turned into an independent and ongoing series of portraits. These spontaneous images present vulnerable moments that present Marais unique vision and give the viewer an insight into the reality of modeling.
