The purpose of Beginner's Guide to SolidWorks 2006 is to help the user learn the basic concepts of SolidWorks and good solid modeling practices in an easy to follow guide. It is intended for the new SolidWorks user, users with experience in different CAD systems, or as a teaching aid in classroom training. At the end of this book, the user will have a good understanding of the SolidWorks interface and the most commonly used commands for part modeling, assembly and detailing by completing a project designing all the components, their 2D drawings and assembly drawings complete with Bill of Materials. The book is focused on the processes to complete the design of a part, instead of focusing on individual software commands or operations, which are generally simple enough to learn.CONTENTS:IntroductionThe SolidWorks InterfacePart ModelingThe HousingThe Side CoverThe Top CoverThe Offset ShaftThe Worm GearThe Worm Gear ShaftDetail DrawingDrawing One: The HousingDrawing Two: The Side CoverDrawing Three: The Top CoverDrawing Four: The Offset ShaftDrawing Five: The Worm GearDrawing Six: The Worm Gear ShaftAssembly ModelingThe Gear Box AssemblyFastenersExploded ViewAssembly Drawing SectionCollaboration: eDrawingsHow to collaborate with nonSolidWorks usersFinal CommentsAppendixIndexABOUT THE AUTHOR:Alejandro Reyes obtained his engineering degree from the Instituto Tecnolgico de Ciudad Jurez in Mexico as an electromechanical engineer; upon finishing he obtained a scholarship for a Masters Degree in the University of Texas at El Paso in mechanical design, with strong focus in Materials Science and Finite Element Analysis.Currently Alejandro is the President of MechaniCAD Inc., a SolidWorks Authorized Training, Testing and Support Center in El Paso, Texas and Juarez, Mexico.
