Beide gehen im brigen von einer teleologisch konzipierten Heilsgeschichte aus. Am Anfang steht eine paradiesische Einheit, dann erfhrt diese einen tragischen Zwischenfall, der die materielle Welt entwickelt und zum Schluss steht die Wiederherstellung jener ursprnglichen Einheit und daraus folgend die Erlsung. In diesen Punkten herrschen die grundstzlichen Gemeinsamkeiten zwischen Christentum und Gnosis. Nur wie diese Grundgedanken in die Theorie einflieen ist divergent. So gelangt die Gnosis zu vllig anderen Vorstellungen als das Christentum. Zu diesen gnostischen Vorstellungen stellt Foerster in "Die Gnosis. Zeugnisse der Kirchenvter" fnf, wie er sie nennt, Hauptmomente vor: 1. Zwischen dieser Welt und dem unserem Denken unfassbaren Gott, dem Urgrund, ist ein unberbrckbarer Gegensatz 2. Das Selbst, das Ich des Gnostikers, sein Geist oder seine Seele, ist unvernderlich gttlich. 3. Dieses Ich aber ist in diese Welt geraten und von ihr gefangen und betubt worden und kann sich nicht selbst daraus befreien. 4. Erst ein gttlicher Ruf aus der Welt des Lichtes lst die Bande der Gefangenschaft 5. Aber erst am Ende dieser Welt kehrt das Gttliche in dem Menschen zu seiner Heimat zurck.
