Das er mit der Musik zu letzterem aber tatschlich die Trophe mit nach Hause nehmen durfte und sich damit gegen die Groen der Zunft, namentlich Alfred Newman, Franz Waxman, Max Steiner und Miklos Rozsa, durchsetzte, glich schon fast einer Sensation. Abgesehen von Newman waren es zu dieser Zeit Immigranten, die die Filmmusik Hollywoods mit der romantischen Tradition Europas dominierten. Max Steiner, mit ber 150 Scores einer der bedeutendsten Hollywoodkomponisten in der ersten Hlfte des 20. Jahrhunderts, studierte in Wien unter anderem bei Gustav Mahler. Dimitri Tiomkin wurde im St. Petersburger Konservatorium von niemand geringerem als Alexander Glasunov geprgt. Erich Wolfgang Korngold wurde von Puccini und Richard Strauss als Wunderkind" gelobt und als ausgewiesener Gegner der atonalen Musik bekannt. Diese Tradition durchbrach Bernard Herrmann mit Citizen Kane" und in den folgenden dreiig Jahren wurde der Name Bernard Herrmann Synonym fr den modernen Klang Hollywoods." Was macht diesen modernen Klang" von Bernard Herrmann aus und wie arbeitete er damit fast 40 Jahre lang?
