Many researchers jump from data collection directly into testing hypothesis without realizing these tests can go profoundly wrong without clean data. This book provides a clear, accessible, stepbystep process of important best practices in preparing for data collection, testing assumptions, and examining and cleaning data in order to decrease error rates and increase both the power and replicability of results.Jason W. Osborne, author of the handbook Best Practices in Quantitative Methods (SAGE, 2008) provides easilyimplemented suggestions that are evidencebased and will motivate change in practice by empirically demonstratingfor each topicthe benefits of following best practices and the potential consequences of not following these guidelines.

I found this guide to be a decent overview of data cleaning basics. However, I was hoping for more advanced techniques. It’s a great starter book, but if you’re already familiar with the topic, you might not find much new here.

Not What I Expected
I was disappointed with this guide. It felt more like a summary than a comprehensive resource. A few sections didn’t provide enough detail for my needs, and I ended up looking for additional sources to fill in the gaps.

Useful for Beginners
As someone new to data management, this book really helped me understand the importance of cleaning data before analysis. The step-by-step approach was pretty easy to follow. Just wish there were more real-life examples to relate to!

Thorough and Comprehensive Guide
This book on data cleaning is exactly what I needed! The detailed strategies and examples were super helpful. I’m now more confident in handling my datasets, especially the sections on post-collection practices, which I always overlooked before.
