Die groe Strke Deutschlands, nmlich das geschmeidige Schmieden von Koalitionen und Kompromissen, ist durch die rotgrne Regierung verloren gegangen; ebenso wie die deutsche Sonderstellung in der Internationalen Politik des traditionellen Sowohlalsauch' in einem sackgassenartigem EntwederOder' endete. Jahrzehntelang hatten die deutschen Auenpolitiker erfolgreich Situationen vermieden, sich zwischen den beiden Groen, Frankreich und Amerika, entscheiden zu mssen. Mit dem unberlegten Nein' zum Irakkrieg hat Schrder diese diplomatische Position fr immer verspielt, und ist von der Kontinuittstheorie abgewichen. Von den deutschen Sternstunden der Diplomatie, wie das Erreichen der Wiedervereinigung, ist unter der rotgrnen Regierung nicht mehr viel brig geblieben. Schrder verrgerte nicht nur die USA, er brskierte die UNO als Institution, blockierte die NATO und spaltete die EU in Kriegsbefrworter und Kriegsgegner. Auch in der sicherheitspolitischen Lage unter Schrder/Fischer lassen sich Vernderungen zu den Vorgngerregierungen erkennen. Die Ziele der Auenpolitik sind gleich geblieben, jedoch haben sich die Mittel zur Zielerreichung stark verndert. Die unter Kohl gerne praktizierte Scheckbuchdiplomatie wurde ersetzt durch militrische Untersttzung. Im Kosovo, wie auch in Afghanistan, waren deutsche Soldaten an Kampfhandlungen beteiligt und man zeigte sich solidarisch mit den USA. Parallel zu diesen Einstzen entstand die Diskussion um eine Militarisierung Deutschlands
