Danach folgt ein Abriss seiner persnlichen und wissenschaftlichen Biographie. Im vierten Abschnitt kommen anhand von exemplarischen Beispielen formale und inhaltliche Aspekte des Buches zur Sprache. Hier ist zu zeigen, dass es, auer der Tatsache ein populrwissenschaftliches Geschichtsbuch zu sein, auch zur Selbstdarstellung des Autors dient und gleichsam ein Rechtfertigungsmittel fr dessen Vorstellungen und eine Art Glaubensbekenntnis darstellt. Der fnfte Abschnitt referiert den zentralen Teil von Hawking Werk die seinerzeit aktuellste populre Darstellung vom Ursprung und Schicksal des Universums. An der Erarbeitung der Grundlagen hierzu hatte er selber einen wesentlichen Anteil. Auch hier ist eine bemerkenswerte Ambivalenz zwischen rationalmathematischer Arbeitsweise und metaphysischen Wunschvorstellungen nicht zu bersehen. In den Schlusskapiteln mnden die Errterungen zu diesen physikalischen und kosmologischen Entdeckungen und Erkenntnisse (fast?) schon wieder in kosmogonische Sichtweisen ein, und es erhebt sich die Frage, ob die Grundgedanken der modernen Wissenschaft sich wirklich von Sichtweisen und Vorstellungen unterscheiden, die zweieinhalb Jahrtausende in die Kulturgeschichte zur
