Mnner richten sich nach dem System des report talk', Frauen dagegen nach dem System des rapport talk'. Das Hauptaugenmerk des report talk' liegt allein auf dem Informationsaustausch. Das heit, der Sprecher gibt in seiner Rede nichts anderes preis als eine einfache Information, die pure Aussage eines Satzes. Wichtig dabei ist noch eine gewisse Macht. Mnner versuchen, im Gesprch ihre Macht auszudrcken und zu bewahren. Frauen hingegen legen mehr wert auf Gefhle. Der rapport talk' gibt dem Zuhrer wesentlich mehr Informationen ber den Sprecher, sowie ber den Gegenstand des Gesprchs selbst. Dies geschieht berwiegend auf einer reinen Gefhlsebene. Ziel dieser Taktik der Gesprchsfhrung ist stark harmonisierend, ganz im Gegenzug zur Machtbesessenheit des mnnlichen Sprechers. Daher sind Missverstndnisse im Gesprch unumgnglich. Hinzu kommt das Verhalten beider Geschlechter im Gesprch. Mnner sind immer die dominierenden Teilnehmer eines kommunikativen Aktes. Sie behaupten sehr stark, unterbrechen sehr oft und geben zustzlich kaum oder versptet backchanel'. Frauen hingegen geben ihr Rederecht schnell auf, lassen sich also gerne unterbrechen und behaupten weit weniger stark als ihr mnnlicher Gegenber. Der versptete backchanel' des Mannes vermittelt dem harmoniebedrftigen rapport talker' den Eindruck, der andere hre nicht zu, worauf er seine Rede sofort unterbricht.
