Ihr erster Teil widmet sich einer in Begriffen der Phnomenologie zu formulierenden Problemexposition, zu welcher eine kurze Einfhrung in die grundlegenden Anstze und Positionen der klassischen und neueren Philosophie des Geistes gehren wird. Auf der Ebene der gedanklichen Entwicklung geht es dabei um eine erste Beschreibung der Vielfalt der Arten, Formen, Funktionen und Eigenschaften des Bewusstseins als eines mit der Krperwelt in Interaktion stehenden Prozesses. Der zweite Teil der Arbeit wendet sich der Auseinandersetzung mit den Grundpositionen im Diskurs der Neurowissenschaften zu, in dessen Zentrum die Beziehung des Bewusstseins zu seinen neurophysiologischen Grundlagen (das GeistGehirnProblem) stehen wird. Die Natur des Bewusstseins steht seit anderthalb Jahrhunderten nicht mehr allein im Zentrum philosophischer Theorien sie ist lngst zu einem interdisziplinren Forschungsgegenstand geworden, an dem viele empirische Disziplinen mitarbeiten. Auch wenn der mit dem Bewusstsein verbundene Themenkomplex in der Philosophie eine lange und facettenreiche Geschichte vorzuweisen hat, so stellt er sich heute, zu Beginn des 21. Jahrhunderts als ein ebenso schwieriges wie unabgeschlossenes Forschungsfeld dar. Bei allem Fortschritt in den Biowissenschaften, der Medizin und der Informationstechnologie, die zweifellos viele wichtige Aspekte zum besseren Verstndnis der mit dem Bewusstsein verbundenen Phnomene beigetragen haben, entzieht es sich gleichwohl nach wie vor einer vollstndigen Lsung durch die Empirie.
