Jahrhunderts der Prozess der Budgetierung und die daraus resultierenden Budgets. Budgetierung, neben Kennzahlensystemen das zweite Rckgrat" der traditionellen Unternehmenssteuerung , gilt als probates Mittel zur Prognose, Koordination und Motivation in Unternehmen. Anlsslich weiter voranschreitender Diversifikation der ProduktPortfolios und mit ihr einhergehender wachsender Komplexitt in den Unternehmen diente die Einfhrung von Budgets der Untersttzung des Unternehmensmanagements. Auch heute werden das Budgetsystem und der damit verbundene Prozess der Budgetierung als wesentliche Elemente des Controllings beschrieben. Die Budgetierung untersttzt hierbei die Steuerungs und Koordinationsfunktion des Controllings, indem sie durch Prognose und Kontrollprozesse die auf den zu erreichenden Erfolg gerichteten Ergebnisgren koordiniert. Das Budget vermittelt den Menschen berall auf der Welt ein Gefhl von Sicherheit, Planbarkeit und Kontrolle ber die als vage empfundene Zukunft. Auf der anderen Seite ist im Zeitablauf die Kritik am traditionellen Budgetierungssystem gewachsen. Die Ableitung von Budgets gilt als zu zeit und ressourcenintensiv. Darber hinaus impliziert die Budgetierung eine Starrheit, die eine Reaktion auf sich ndernde Marktgegebenheiten nahezu unmglich macht. Eine Abkehr vom starren Planungsrahmen hingegen wrde die Reaktionsgeschwindigkeit erhhen. Folglich begannen CEOs und Controller nach Alternativen und Vereinfachungen zum Budgetierungssystem zu suchen.
