Die Fulle der in den letzten Jahrzehnten auf dem Gebiet der deutschsprachigen Islamwissenschaft und Semitisitk publizierten Arbeiten hat dazu angeregt, eine Bibliographie zu erstellen, dessen Ziel es ist, die erarbeiteten Erkenntnisse uberschaubarer zu machen und dem Interessenten einen rascheren Zugang zu den gewunschten Informationen zu ermoglichen.Die Bibliographie enthalt die Veroffentlichungen von ca. 250 Autoren des deutschsprachigen Raumes. Es sind jedoch auch Arbeiten von Fachwissenschaftlern des Auslandes berucksichtigt worden, die hauptsachlich oder teilweise in Deutsch publizieren bzw. publizierten. Die Sammlung erstreckt sich auf den Zeitraum von Anfang des 19. Jahrhunderts bis 1985. Der Umfang des gesammelten Materials machte es notwendig, die Bibliographie in mehrere Bande aufzuteilen.
