Wohl kein zweiter Roman hat gerade die linke Intelligenz dieses Landes in den letzten Jahren so nachhaltig beschaftigt wie "Die Asthetik des Wider stands"l von Peter Weiss, deren drei Bande jeweils im Abstand von drei Jah ren 1975, 1978 und 1981 erschienen sind. Zusammen mit den "Notizbuchern 19711980"2, die 1981 gemeinsam mit dem abschliessenden dritten Band der Trilogie publiziert wurden, nimmt dieser Text zumindest in den 70er und 80er Jahren in der deutschsprachigen Literatur eine markante Sonderstellung ein. Von der nachhaltigen Wirkung, die Weiss' Text bisher ausgeubt hat, zeugen 3 neben den zahlreichen Rezensionen, die die sperrige Prosa kommentiert haben, sowohl die rege Seminartatigkeit an den Hochschulen als auch zahlrei 4 che private Lesegruppen. Wenn die Anzeichen nicht trugen, scheinen diese Aktivitaten nicht zuletzt angesichts der nachhaltigen postsozialistischen Er nuchterung heute jedoch rucklaufig zu sein. Damit ware allerdings noch nicht das Urteil besiegelt, die "Asthetik des Widerstands" habe moglicherweise nach dem Untergang des Sozialismus ihre politische Bedeutung und kulturelle Be rechtigung verloren, weil ihr Autor hartnackig von der notwendigen und auch Peter Weiss, Die Asthetik des Widerstands. Roman, (dreibandige Ausgabe in einem Band, 1975, 1978, 1981), Frankfurt/M. 1983. Zitatbelege im Text werden mit der Sigle (AdW) in Klammem, der Bandnummer in romischer und der Seitenzahl in arabi scher Ziffer abgekurzt. Auf die verspatete Ausgabe des Henschelverlages in der DDR (Berlin 1983), die zahlreiche Textabweichungen enthalt, werde ich in dieser Arbeit nicht zuruckgreifen."
