Melanophryniscus es un gnero neotropical de bufnidos constituido actualmente por 25 especies reunidas en tres grupos fenticos. En la provincia de Crdoba, Argentina, las poblaciones correspondientes a M. stelzneri se encuentran bajo presin de explotacin, debido a las capturas que sufren para su comercializacin como mascotas, o a la matanza por temor a su ponzoa, la alteracin de los sitios de oviposicin provocados por el sobrepastoreo, los periodos de sequa que se vienen registrando en la provincia y la reiteracin de los incendios en la zona serrana. El objetivo general de este trabajo es caracterizar las poblaciones de Melanophryniscus stelzneri presentes en la provincia de Crdoba en base a un conjunto de variables acsticas, morfomtricas y ecolgicas. De acuerdo a los resultados obtenidos en este trabajo, se sugiere seguir considerando las poblaciones de Melanophryniscus stelzneri presentes en Crdoba como pertenecientes a una nica especie, hasta tanto no se realice la reevaluacin del gnero.
