En este libro se analizan los debates existentes entre los actores involucrados en la temtica de los biocombustibles en Amrica Latina. La regin se presenta como actual productora y usuaria de esta fuente energtica en expansin. Sin embargo, existen tres dimensiones que frecuentemente resultan disparadoras de las principales discusiones actuales sobre la temtica de los biocombustibles: la econmica, la social (que incluye debates respecto de una potencial disyuntiva entre combustibles y alimentos) y la ambiental. Sobre estas cuestiones, a su vez, existen distintas miradas acerca de cul debe ser el rol del estado con relacin a la actividad. Los actores que intervienen en estos debates coinciden en mayor o menor grado o difieren, en funcin de sus perspectivas, sus intereses y sus capacidades en trminos de poder. A su vez, forman parte de un entramado de relaciones que los afecta e influye en sus discursos. Por otra parte, debido a que se trata de un campo especfico en conformacin, existen procesos dinmicos y abiertos, en los que se dan alianzas con distinto grado de perdurabilidad y en donde la informacin aparece como un elemento crucial.
