El lindano es un plaguicida cuyo uso est prohibido en la mayora de los pases, ya que acta como carcingeno y se acumula en el ambiente. La biorremediacin es la remocin, transformacin y/o degradacin de contaminantes ambientales mediante el uso de organismos vivos o partes de ellos. Los actinobacterias poseen gran potencial para la biodegradacin de compuestos txicos, debido a su diversidad metablica y a su capacidad para utilizar diferentes sustratos. Con el fin de seleccionar un consorcio de actinobacterias capaces de biodegradar lindano, se aislaron actinobacterias de muestras de suelo extradas de un depsito clandestino de plaguicidas ubicado en Argentina. Se seleccionaron 6 cepas de Streptomyces para ensayos de actividad declorinasa y de remocin de lindano, en cultivos puros y mixtos. Los cultivos mixtos de 2, 3 y 4 cepas presentaron mayores porcentajes de remocin de lindano que los cultivos puros. Por el contrario, las combinaciones de 5 y 6 cepas no removieron eficientemente el plaguicida del medio. Estos resultados sugieren que los consorcios microbianos de actinobacterias podran ser utilizados para biorremediar ambientes contaminados con xenobiticos.
