Dieses Buch richtet sich an die Anwender statistischer Methoden aus der Biologie und den Agrarwissenschaften. Es versucht die be handelten statistischen Verfahren mit moglichst wenig Formalismus, durch anschauliche Beispiele und mit Hilfe graphischer Darstellun gen ausfuhrlich zu erlautern. Die Auswahl des behandelten Stoffes erfolgte unter dem Gesichtspunkt, dass im Verlauf eines Semesters ein Einblick sowohl in die beschreibende als auch in die schliessende Statistik und in die Versuchsplanung moglich ist. Auf eine Aufarbei tung der Grundlagen der Wahrscheinlichkeitsrechnung wurde ver zichtet. Zur Wiederholung empfehlen wir z. B. das entsprechende Kapitel aus dem Buch von Batschelet (siehe Literaturhinweise). Ziel dieses Lehrbuches ist es nicht, aus einem Anwender einen Statistiker zu machen, sondern es gilt, den Dialog zwischen bei den zu ermoglichen. Dieser Dialog in Form von statistischer Beratung wird als wesentlich angesehen und sollte nicht erst nach Durchfuh rung der Datenerhebung, sondern moglichst schon im Stadium der Versuchsplanung beginnen. Die Anwendung rechenaufwendiger und komplizierter statisti scher Verfahren ist durch den Einsatz von Computern und durch die damit verbundene zunehmende Verbreitung statistischer Programm pakete wesentlich erleichtert worden. Einerseits ermoglicht dies eine verbesserte und umfangreichere Auswertung der in einem Datensatz enthaltenen Informationen, andererseits verfuhrt dieser unkompli zierte Zugang zu unkritischer Anwendung der verschiedensten stati stischen Methoden, ohne die zugrundeliegenden Voraussetzungen der Verfahren zu berucksichtigen.'
