Bj?rn N?rgaard (*1947) is regarded as Denmark?s most important and versatile contemporary sculptor. The catalogue presents a selection of works dating from 1985 to 2009 and introduces a total of 19 sculptures comprising 37 individual figures. N?rgaard achieved recognition in the 1960s through Happenings (in some cases with Joseph Beuys), and since the 1970s has been working predominantly on sculptures and mural decorations, and most recently avantgarde architecture. This publication presents diverse environments, including some of his archaicseeming largescale sculptures reminiscent of Aztec temple figures. Alongside explanations of the individual works the authors reveal N?rgaards? relationships with Danish writers and visual artists such as Hans Christian Andersen and Per Kirkeby.
