The subsequent development of Blenheim Park provides a microcosm of the main developments in English landscape gardening first the formal parterres of Henry Wise around Vanbrugh's new palace, then the transformations wrought by Lancelot 'Capability' Brown in what is justly one of his most famous works, centred around the newly created Grand Lake.
