What Follows Is Not A Scholarly History Of The Patrol Squadrons Of World War Ii. It Is, Rather, A Record Of One Of The Many Patrol Squadrons That Flew The Patrol (P) Bomber (B) Designed And Built By Consolidated Aircraft (Y) Of San Diego, California. It Is Presented In The Terms Expressed By The Men Of The Squadron What They Saw, What They Did, And How They Felt About The Job They Were Assigned. It Is A Story Of Men Who Flew Missions At Any Time In Any Kind Of Weather, Often Against Far Superior Forces: Most Often They Lived To File Their Combat Reports And Fly Again. The Account Of Heavier Than Air (V) Patrol (P) Squadron 44 Presented Here Is Representative Of The Record Of Other Pby Squadrons That Served In Both The Atlantic And Pacific. Taken Together, These Squadrons Provide An Exciting And Glorious Chapter Of The Book Of World War Ii. It Is A Record Worth Preserving. My Presentation Of The Events Is A Salute To The Men Of The Pby Squadrons And A Gesture Of Thanks For The Time Shared With Them.
