I was really looking forward to this collection, but some of the poems just didn’t hit right for me. Maybe it’s just not my style. I appreciate Hughes' historical significance, but I was hoping for more contemporary themes. Disappointed overall.

I bought 'The Early Works of Langston Hughes' for my literature class, and it’s been a fantastic resource. Hughes' voice is incredibly powerful. My only complaint is that a couple of the poems needed better annotations for historical context, but it's still a worthwhile read.
