The continuing adventures of the legendary bookdealer team of Rostenberg and Stern, book detectives, lifelong friends, and partners in the book trade for close to 60 years. In this latest work (they have coauthored a number of reminiscences and scholarly studies), they trace 30 histories in which the protagonists are some of the books that have passed through their hands; they begin with the tale of a 16thcentury volume about a clock and end with stories about imaginary books, imaginary libraries, and other hoaxes. Illustrated with reproductions of the title pages of the books in question. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)

I enjoyed some parts of Books Have Their Fates, but the narrative jumped around a lot, which left me a bit confused at times. The writing style is beautiful, though. If you like complex stories, this might be for you!

Not What I Expected
Honestly, I found Books Have Their Fates quite underwhelming. The characters didn't resonate with me, and I thought the story would be more cohesive. Maybe it's just not my style, but I expected more engagement from such an intriguing title.

Beautifully Written, Some Flaws
The concept of Books Have Their Fates drew me in, but at times the plot felt a bit disjointed. I appreciated the deep themes, yet I wish some threads were more connected. Still, it was a worthwhile read if you're into literary explorations!

A Unique Read for Book Lovers
Books Have Their Fates is such an intriguing concept! I love how it intertwines different narratives and explores fate through literature. This book has become a conversation starter among my friends. I found it hard to put down!
